Former Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold links up with England rugby union

Former Brisbane Broncos coach Anthony Seibold has linked up with England rugby union as their new defence coach.

The 46-year-old Australian arrives in England from his most recent role as head coach of Brisbane in the NRL.

Seibold has previously been head coach at South Sydney Rabbitohs and has also enjoyed coaching gigs at Manly Sea Eagles, Melbourne Storm and South Wales Scorpions.

Seibold will first work with the England RU squad later this month month when they meet up for a training camp alongside Martin Gleeson, who was recently appointed England’s attack coach.

England RU coach Eddie Jones said: “Anthony is a coach that I have had a relationship with since 2019 and have followed his career closely. He is a good coach and thinks deeply about the game.

“John Mitchell did a great job improving us in defence and Anthony will add further nuances to the good system that he has put into place.”

Seibold’s rugby league playing career included spells in the UK with London Broncos, Hull KR and Crusaders. He was also capped by Germany.

He also worked recently as a coaching mentor for Newcastle Knights in the NRL.
