Huddersfield forward Brett Ferres has thanked his Giants team-mates after earning a place in the England squad on Tuesday.

Ferres, 27, was a surprise inclusion in England coach Steve McNamara’s squad to face the Exiles next week but the forward is determined to make the most of his chance.

He said: “I’ve just tried to stay consistent in my game and this is the reward for that.

“The Giants have helped me massively by winning quite a lot of games and sitting near the top of the table.

“Obviously we’ve got a cracking squad here at Huddersfield and I’ve got fantastic players around me.

Danny Brough has been making life quite easy on the inside of me and I’ve got Joe Wardle on the outside so it’s very easy to play around quality players.

“Leroy (Cudjoe) and Eorl (Crabtree) are already in the mix and they’ve been playing fantastically well. There’s probably a few more that could be thereabouts.

“It’s a massive step forward for me. Coming from outside the ETS, it’s a privilege and an honour to be part of it. It’s the first step on the ladder for me this year.

“It’s about being consistent and keep performing and hopefully at the end of the year I’ll be among the selection again.”

England take on the Exiles in the International Origin match at Warrington next Friday.
