Farrell backs Bennett for England

Liam Farrell has offered his support to Wayne Bennett following his appointment as England‘s new head coach.

The Wigan Warriors second rower made his debut by Steve McNamara for his country in 2013, following impressive performances under Shaun Wane at his boyhood club.

McNamara has now been replaced by Brisbane Broncos head coach Wayne Bennett, and Farrell says he is looking forward to working with the Australian and feels the appointment can only benefit England.

“On a personal level I’m excited about the possibility of working with Wayne Bennett,” Farrell told wigantoday.net in his weekly column.

“He has a great record and is arguably the best coach of the last two decades – I can see why England moved for him. I see he’s planning to appoint an English assistant coach, with an eye succeeding him, which I think is a smart move.

“At the same time, I’ve got a lot to thank former national coach Steve McNamara for. He gave me my debut and he deserves huge praise for what he’s done. Everyone in the squad gets on – he really developed the ‘two team’ mentality – and I feel he has left England in a really good position.”
