Doncaster forward Jordie Hedges has been forced to retire from the sport on medical grounds, aged 26.

Hedges has missed the majority of the past two seasons with serious knee problems. He initially suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Oldham in 2019.

He joined the club from South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2016, and has played 85 games for Doncaster.

During that time he has scored 20 tries and kicked 31 goals, tallying 141 points for the Dons throughout his time at the club.

Hedges said: “I’ve taken advice from my surgeons to retire. Not the way I wanted it to end. I didn’t get to go out on my terms. It’s a very tough decision, but I’ve obviously had to put my family, myself and my health first.

“I’d like to thank Carl Hall and the club. They have been tremendous through all this.

“It’s been a tough three years and I just couldn’t seem to get it right. That’s where I’ve come to this decision. From day one from when I walked into this place, I just felt at home.”

Doncaster CEO Carl Hall added: “Jordie has been through a really tough time through injuries and having been at the club for six years now we are sad to see him go.

“He has a young family to think of now and despite it being a difficult decision to retire. He has to think of them and what is best moving forward.

“We are all behind him every step of the way and will do everything we can to help him throughout his recovery process.”
