Dewsbury and Sheffield in fixture row

Dewsbury and Sheffield remain in dispute over their scheduled Championship game on Sunday June 5, with still no venue confirmed.

The Eagles had requested for the game to be moved, due to the unavailability of their regular home at Bramall Lane, and also their previous Don Valley Stadium home.

Reports suggest that Sheffield had tried to reverse the fixtures at the start of the season, but travelled to play the Rams in the reverse game back in April.

A Dewsbury club statement read: “We were infomed some time ago by the RFL that the match must be played on the scheduled date, and that we would be informed in due course of the venue.

“However, due to the inability of Sheffield Eagles in being able to secure a venue to play the match in the six months since the fixtures were released, we are unfortunately still in the dark on the matter with less than two weeks to go until the scheduled date.

“It is unfortunate that we are in this situation with such a short time to go until the match.”

Sheffield’s hopes of securing a venue have been hampered, with many football clubs – including Barnsley and Chesterfield – using this month to re-seed their pitches following the end of the football season.
