Crusaders chief executive Rod Findlay is hopeful half-back Michael Witt will sign a new contract with the club.

Witt, 27, is tipped to follow half-back partner Rhys Hanbury, who signed a new three-year deal yesterday, in committing his future to the Racecourse Ground.

Findlay said: “There are just a few things to tie up but we’re confident Michael will join Rhys in extending his stay with the Crusaders.

“Michael has been one of our standout players this season and he is happy here at the Crusaders. We’re confident Michael and some other key Crusaders players will be signing new deals with the club very soon.”

The Australian moved to Crusaders in 2010 after a brief stint in rugby union.

He previously played for Parramatta, Manly and New Zealand Warriors in the NRL.
