Craig Sandercock disappointed with RFL officials

Craig Sandercock was disappinted with the RFL’s match commissioner Dave Campbell after he refused to allow Rovers extra time to warm up despite Rovers’ bus breaking down.

The Robins’ team bus unexpectedly broke down on the way to Langtree Park on Friday, and Sandercock was furious with Campbell after he appeared to change his mind from delaying the game’s kick off by 15 minutes, to refusing to give Rovers extra time to prepare.

The team had already spent six and a half hours on the bus to the stadium.

Hull KR lost to St Helens 34-28 after coming from 26-0 down to take a 28-26 lead. Sandercock will demand an explanation from the RFL.

He said: “We only arrived at the ground at 7:05pm and the Match Commissioner refused to even give us an extra 10 minutes. Originally, he did agree to give us an extra 15 minutes but he then had a chat to someone, I don’t know who, and then came back and told me we weren’t going to get 15.

“I said that even 10 would be nice but we couldn’t even have that and that’s something I need to take up with the RFL. When the Match Commissioner originally gives you an extra 15 minutes to get your players organised but then comes back and refuses, it’s very disappointing.

“It’s an issue that I feel very strongly about as I know what I would have done in that position if a team had spent six and a half hours on a bus and asked for 10 more minutes to get themselves sorted out.”

The defeat was Rovers’ second in successive weeks.
