Hunslet have signed back-rower Chris Buttery from Batley on a one-year deal.

Buttery, 26, has spent the past four seasons at the LoveRugbyLeague.com Stadium, and can also play in the centres.

He came through the academy set-up at Leeds, earning their Senior Academy player of the year award in 2005, and also spent time in the Championship with Doncaster.

Hawks Director of Rugby Darren Williams said: “Chris is a vastly experienced Championship player and is still only 26, he started this season on fire at Batley before a knee injury ended his season, he will prove to be a very useful addition to the squad and his versatility will be of huge value.

“Initially we see Chris as a back rower but he can also cover hooker, half back and centre so he offers us numerous positional options, it’s no secret I have been trying to attract Chris to the club for some time so to finally land his signature is very pleasing.”

Meanwhile, the Hawks have also handed a 12-month contract extension to experienced forward Steve Dooler.
