Championship Round Five attendances: Monday night fixture attracts large crowd

Monday night’s Championship fixture between Featherstone and Bradford at the Millennium Stadium attracted the largest crowd of the latest round of action.

An official updated crowd of 4,809 saw Featherstone make it five from five so far in 2023 with a 26-12 win over the travelling Bulls.

It is also the highest recorded Monday night attendance so far of 2023, with 3,187 watching Widnes take on Halifax in Round Four, while Keighley’s opening match against Featherstone attracted a crowd of 2,443.

York meanwhile had an attendance of 2,381 for their home clash with Bradford in Round Two.

With Featherstone chairman Mark Campbell recently warning against the crowd numbers so far at home, the 4,012 figure is the club’s highest attendance so far of the current campaign.

The side’s other attendances this season are 3,794, 2,248 and 2,489.

Elsewhere in the Championship

Sheffield Eagles recorded their highest attendance of the season so far to go alongside their impressive 44-12 victory over John Kear’s Widnes.

A crowd of 1,319 watched on, while 878 saw them beat Batley 36-0 in Round Three.

Toulouse remain second in the Championship following their 72-10 home victory over Whitehaven. 2,558 attended the Championship clash at Stade Ernest-Wallon.

Barrow remain the only team without a win so far in 2023 following their 18-18 draw at home to Newcastle Thunder on Sunday. The Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium recorded a crowd of 1,752.

1,693 saw Keighley claim their second win of the season with a 33-22 home result over London Broncos.

Halifax claimed a 20-16 triumph over Batley with an official figure of 1,703 watching on inside the Shay Stadium.

Finally, 1,029 attended Heywood Road as Swinton fell to a 40-0 home defeat to Andrew Henderson’s York. AJ Towse (2), Myles Harrison (2), Joe Brown (2), Ata Hingano and Josh Daley all scoring on the day.

It means a total of 14,863 supporters attended a Championship fixture during Round Five, an average of 2,123 across the seven fixtures.
