Championship / C1 Round Up
On Thursday, Barrow Raiders defeat Widnes Vikings 38-16. The depleted visitors were left holding onto the Cumbrian outfit throughout, as on-loan half-back Jamie Rooney starred. Seven goals and a last minute try completed a personal 18-point haul for the Wakefield-owned star.
On the same night, Halifax continued to struggle to live up to head coach Matt Calland’s billing as the best in the Championship ‘by a country mile’, as Sheffield completed a double over them at the Don Valley Stadium. Hepworth, Stringer, Exton, Thackeray, Ropati, Howieson and Mills crossed in a 38-24 win.
On Saturday, Leigh boosted their survival hopes with a 26-6 win at home to Toulouse. Alstead, Nanyn, Stanton and Watson tries handed the Centurions three points.
Doncaster, on -1 points after a penalty deduction, lost at home to Featherstone 56-10. Former St Helens and Widnes utility Ian Hardman crossed for five tries.
Whitehaven continued their impressive run of form with a 20-12 home defeat of Batley, thanks to first half scores from Amor, Theoharous and McAvoy.
In the Championship One, Blackpool and Oldham fought out a 30-30 draw. Late tries from Littler and Goulden secured the draw for the Roughyeds.
Dewsbury remained undefeated with a 50-14 win over Workington, while four tries from Gareth Moore helped York on their way to a 64-0 at the expense of London Skolars.
Two tries from Wayne McHugh helped Hunslet on their way to a 30-20 dispatch of Swinton, while Keighley won 44-18 away at Rochdale.
