Catalans Dragons rising star Arthur Mourgue has been tipped to become a world-class full-back by Huddersfield Giants utility Ash Golding.

The 24-year-old French international has made 57 Super League appearances to date, scoring 16 tries and kicking 76 goals.

Mourgue has donned the number one jersey in Perpignan since 2021, with England international and former captain Sam Tomkins featuring in 29.

Golding, who began his career at full-back with Leeds before developing into a utility at Huddersfield, spoke highly of Mourgue on the latest episode of BBC’s Super League Show.

Mourgue, who can also feature across a range of positions, has been ever-present under Steve McNamara in 2023, scoring six tries and assisting a further seven more, creating 12 clean breaks.

He most recently represented France during last year’s World Cup, featuring in all three of their group stage matches against Greece, England and Samoa.

Mourgue also extended his stay at Gilbert Brutus Stadium with a new two-year contract earlier this year, having joined the club from Avignon in 2016.

Arthur Mourgue tipped to take Catalans and France ‘very far’ in the future

“He’s been growing each year and he’s made his way through nine, full-back, wing, half,” Golding commented. “He’s got a lot of strings to his bow.

“I do see him being a really good player in the future. You know what, scratch that, not even the future but now because he’s tearing teams apart.

“I do like to think Sam Tomkins is taking the pressure away from him. Sam is doing his job but doing it at a high level which allows Arthur to go around and just play the game that he fell in love with.

“I think he’s going to develop into a world class full-back, and I think he’s going to take not only Catalans Dragons, but the French national team very far in the future.”
