Castleford Tigers have announced half-back Danny Richardson has signed a new two-year contract extension, with the option for a further year.

Richardson signed for the club from St Helens ahead of the 2020 season. Since then, he has made 43 appearances for the Tigers, scoring five tries and kicking 134 goals.

This season, his progress was halted by a neck injury picked up in their round one defeat to Salford Red Devils. But he has come back and been an important player for the Tigers. He kicked the drop-goal that sealed a Golden Point win over Catalans, and also put a star showing in against Warrington– scoring a try, five goals and a drop-goal.

Reacting to his new deal, Richardson said: “I’m made up, and everyone here knows my stance. I really enjoy it here. I love being around the boys and playing for Radders (Lee Radford).

“To get a new contract and secure my next two years at least, I’m over the moon and everything has just fallen into place.

“When I first came to Cas, I felt at home straight away. I didn’t want to go anywhere else so to get it over the line now, I’m made up.”

Lee Radford full of praise for Richardson

Tigers Head Coach Lee Radford added: “Danny’s a great kid. I’ve really enjoyed working with him and have only good things to say about him.

“When he came back in his first games after a serious neck injury, he was really top drawer, and we’re still a work in progress with him in what we want from him.

“He turns up to training with a really good energy about him every day with the right temperament. For that reason, you always give yourself a chance of bettering yourself and that is what Danny does.”
