Workington’s Scotland international Brett Carter has expressed his excitement at the Scotland games being hosted at Derwent Park for the World Cup in 2013.

Two of Scotland’s group games are at Derwent Park where they will play Italy and Tonga as well as the USA at the Salford City Stadium.

Carter said: “It is fantastic that Derwent Park is to host games during the Rugby League World Cup next year, especially Scottish games in my case. The club have been given money to do up the ground and update our facilities.

“It is a great prospect for the stadium and there is a good feeling round the club at the moment with the new facilities. It’s great for the Workington Town in the long run.”

Carter played at full-back in Scotland’s 30-18 Alitalia Cup defeat to Ireland last Sunday, and is hoping to impress sufficiently in this autumn series to be part of head coach Dave Rotheram’s World Cup team.

He said: “A couple of years ago I didn’t expect to represent my country, I was content with playing first team for Workington Town. It was a great feeling putting the jersey, it all went so fast.”

Carter’s only previous game for Scotland saw him score a try in a 42-22 victory two years ago in the same competition.

Scotland face England Knights in their second game in the competition on October 28th.
