Carney on Canberra crew at Salford

Justin Carney says he feels more at ease now at Salford with a number of his ex-Canberra teammates playing at the club.

Former Raider Todd Carney is joining the Red Devils this year, while Canberra products Junior Sa’u and Michael Dobson are already on the books at the AJ Bell Stadium.

“It’s good to have Toddy,” Carney told Love Rugby League.

“I played with him for a fair few years and it’s like my old Canberra crew back here with Junior, Toddy and Dobbo.

“If we can highlight them days we’ll be sweet.”

Carney admitted that the star stand-off was really key for his development during his time with the Green Machine in the Australian capital.

The winger also played with the ex-Catalans player and new Salford signing Lama Tasi at the Sydney Roosters six years ago.

“Toddy has always been a good mate especially as a young guy coming through at Canberra,” he said.

“He always took me under his wing.”

Carney is particularly pleased to be reunited with Tasi.

The big prop has arrived back at the Greater Manchester club after a year with St Helens.

“I’ve known him for a few years and he was one of the boys last year when he was at Saints he was always hanging out with all the boys here,” he said.

“Everyone knew him personally and it’s great to have him back.”
