Canberra 6-14 Manly: Sea Eagles grind out win against Raiders

Drew Darbyshire

Manly put in a determined effort to grind out a 14-6 win against Canberra at Campbelltown Stadium.

Manly were dealt a blow within the first four minutes as Dylan Walker and Brad Parker left the field with injuries and didn’t return to the action.

The Sea Eagles opened the scoring in the 14th minute as Tom Trbojevic went over, with Reuben Garrick converting.

Tevita Funa scored for Manly just before the break. Garrick’s conversion gave Des Hasler’s Sea Eagles a 12-0 lead at half-time.

Ricky Stuart’s Raiders came back into the game in the 50th minute as Elliott Whitehead touched down, with Jarrod Croker adding the extras.

But Garrick extended Manly’s lead just moments later with a penalty goal. The Sea Eagles were 14-6 ahead with 24 minutes remaining.

The Sea Eagles were handed another injury blow in the second half as star full-back Tom Trbojevic left the field with a hamstring injury and didn’t return.

But Manly showed great spirit to see the game out and hung on for a good 14-6 victory against Canberra.
