Campese wants earlier transfer deadline day

Hull KR skipper Terry Campese is in favour of a transfer window deadline day for rugby league, but would like to see it scheduled for earlier in the season.

While the currently injured stand-off likes the drama and tension that a deadline day for transfers generates, he thinks that it penalises some players unfairly.

“I’d like to see that, but maybe earlier on in the year,” he told Love Rugby League.

“It’s a little unfair for some boys to be successful at their clubs and then be playing Middle 8s instead of top eights later in the year.

“It is a good thing for the game, but I’d like to see it at Round 16 or thereabouts.”

Hull KR themselves reinforced their squad ahead of this year’s deadline with the signing of Dane Chisholm.

Campese is anticipating a significant intervention from the French international half-back at some stage in the Super 8s Qualifiers.

“He’ll feature a lot in the middle 8s, I think,” the Italian international added.

“I think he’ll be dangerous with the attacking prowess that he’s got.

“He created a few problems against St Helens.”
