Brisbane Broncos an option for Cameron Munster after Melbourne Storm offer rejected

Cameron Munster has turned down Melbourne Storm’s offer of a contract extension and would be open to a move to the Brisbane Broncos in 2024, the playmaker’s manager has confirmed.

Munster is under contract with the Storm until the end of the 2023 NRL campaign. But where he ends up after that is still up in the air with the Dolphins also chasing his signature.

The Storm are hoping to tie Munster down to a new deal that would go in to 2024 and beyond. However the offer has been rejected according to his agent Braith Anasta. That happened some weeks ago and as things stand the Storm have not made a fresh offer.

It has been well documented that the offer is on reduced terms. Anasta has not gone in to numbers but says it was knocked back. He is also keen to point out there is no fall-out with Melbourne. Indeed the five-eighth is very happy and will see out 2023 at the very least.

“We haven’t heard back from Melbourne since we rejected their last offer six weeks ago,” Anasta said. ” Cameron loves the Storm and they will always be a priority.

“There’s no animosity at all towards Melbourne, Cameron is contracted there for another year, so we don’t really need to hurry at all.”

The Dolphins have always been seen as frontrunners and still are. Brisbane have yet to declare an interest in signing Munster. The same cannot be said of the Dolphins. Coach Wayne Bennett has been very vocal and has made it clear he wants to get a deal done.

Despite the fact Brisbane have not come forward at this stage, it could be an option down the line. Anasta has hinted that his client would jump at the move.

Cameron Munster keen on Broncos

“The Broncos are certainly one club we are looking at,” Anasta told the Sunday Mail. “The reality is Cameron Munster is one of the best players in the competition and there is a very limited number of genuine premiership-winning halves.

“There’s been no formal approach from the Broncos, but over the next few weeks and months we will be at looking at several options and Brisbane is definitely one club on the radar for Cameron.”

The prospect of Munster linking up with Adam Reynolds is a mouth-watering one. Broncos coach Kevin Walters has admitted his interest also. However he is not thinking about the prospect of signing Munster.

“If there are good players on the market, you look at them, but we don’t need to discuss that right now – Cam Munster playing here – we have Tyson Gamble in the No.6 jumper and he has an opportunity,” Walters said.
