Widnes coach Denis Betts has confirmed that influential stand-off Kevin Brown is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

There was also good news for Vikings fans about other injured players, including Danny Galea and Lloyd White.

“Kevin is ahead of schedule from the hamstring strain he picked up against Huddersfield,” said Betts.

Danny Galea has been given the all-clear from his head injury and concussion and Lloyd White is also looking really good so there is potential that all three players could be available for selection ahead of next week’s fixture.”

It was not all good news, however, with Chris Clarkson and Paddy Flynn picking up injuries in Thursday night’s defeat at Salford.

“Chris could possibly have a dislocated thumb,” Betts added.

“We are not too sure about Paddy’s injury at the moment but we think its some sort of hamstring injury or a bit of a strain in there.”

Meanwhile, Betts also attempted to be upbeeat, despite the heavy defeat at Salford.

“There were lots of positives notes from last night’s game,” he said.

“I thought our fight and determination in the first half were outstanding to get back to 16 – 8. The short turnaround and the energy we used in the first half meant we lacked in the second half against a side that’s got some good home form and are all pretty healthy.

“The good news is that our captain will hopefully be back next week.

Lloyd White should also be available which will give us a boost and Danny Galea could be back to feature in the back row for us which would be another big positive.”
