Brough rules himself out of England contention

Huddersfield half-back Danny Brough has ruled himself out of contention for England selection ahead of Tuesday’s squad announcement.

Brough, 30, has been in inspired form for the Giants this season but has decided will not feature for England again after being dropped by coach Steve McNamara for the Autumn internationals.

He was persuaded to switch allegiances by McNamara but having miss out on this season’s elite training squad, Brough has once more made himself available to Scotland coach Steve McCormack.

He said: “I don’t want to be in it.

“That’s definite. I’m not playing second fiddle every year. I’m going to play for Scotland if I get the opportunity. I’ve spoken to Steve and told him I’m available.

“Steve McNamara hasn’t rung me asking to play for England, so I’m not going to ring him. I’ll play for Scotland if I get the chance.”

McNamara will announce his squad for the mid-season game against the Exiles at 2pm today.
