Whitehaven have signed their second player on loan from Leigh, with Richard Beaumont joining the club on a month’s loan.

Former Hull KR and St Helens man Beaumont, who joined Leigh in 2014, joins up with fellow Centurion Jonny Walker in Cumbria, with Walker having also joined Whitehaven on loan today.

Beaumont has recently been on loan at Rochdale Hornets, and is yet to make his first-team debut for Leigh.

“It’s good to see Richard back playing rugby and he has been on loan at Rochdale,” said Leigh head of rugby Derek Beaumont.

“Obviously the idea behind our players being away is to get them competitive game-time to provide a route back to our team.

“While Rochdale is a good club with a good coaching set-up they cannot change the level of competition they are in.

“My coaching team asked me to find Richard a higher level of competition as we have a decision to make on our option for Richard on a contract for next year.

“We want to give him the best possible opportunity to action this.

“I am delighted he is joining Jonny at Whitehaven and I feel it is an ideal platform for him to increase his sharpness and stake a claim for a place in Paul Rowley’s plans.”
