The home of St Helens has become the latest victim of a music concert, with fans jumping on social media to highlight the turf.

Supporters have questioned the state of the Totally Wicked Stadium pitch, which opened up Friday’s action with the Women’s Super League clash between Matty Smith’s St Helens and York Valkyrie live on Sky Sports.

The Hull KR pitch was previously described as a ‘disgrace’ by some disgruntled Super League fans on social media, with Craven Park having hosted music legends Rod Stewart and The Who earlier this month.

St Helens also recently hosted English rock band The Who for their 2023 UK tour just last week.

In the Men’s Super League, the four-peat reigning champions take on Leeds Rhinos, with the pitch visibly rough in certain patches, particularly in front of the away stand.

One fan wrote on social media: “What the heck is going on with that pitch at St Helens?”

Another shared, “That pitch is terrible.”

Wakefield’s pitch was heavily scrutinised at the start of the season following, requiring inspections.

The hybrid pitch is a part of the ongoing developments at Belle Vue, alongside a new stand.

The pitch was particularly highlighted by opposition head coach and Catalans boss Steve McNamara following the opening game of the season.

McNamara revealed that seven of his players suffered with infections following the clash in February, leading to the ‘worst week ever’ ahead of round two.
