Alex Mellor’s one-match ban remains after appeal dismissed

Leeds forward Alex Mellor will face a one-match ban after he failed in his appeal to have the suspension overturned.

The 26-year-old was given a one-match suspension by the Rugby Football League’s match review panel for a Grade B charge for making contact with a match official in their win over Salford on Sunday.

Mellor entered a guilty plea but challenged the grading, but the disciplinary tribunal found the grading to be correct and as a result of this, he will miss Thursday’s home clash against Leigh.

He has also been fined £500 and the Rhinos club have lost a £500 bond.

Meanwhile, Rob Lui and Callum McLelland could make their first appearances of the season on Thursday after recovering from injury. Liam Sutcliffe could also return for the Rhinos having completed his return to play protocol following Covid.
