Tony Smith delivers injury blow for Tex Hoy ahead of Good Friday derby

Hull boss Tony Smith has confirmed a hamstring injury to star off-season recruit Tex Hoy following their 34-6 defeat to Warrington at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Smith confirmed that the full-back will be a doubt to make an appearance for Good Friday’s derby at the MKM Stadium. 

“Not sure yet, but it’s a hamstring injury,” Smith said in his post-match press conference.

“With the pain it looks like he was in, I doubt he’ll be OK for next week.

“But I haven’t spoken to the physios. I don’t know how severe that will be.”

Hull take on local rivals Hull KR next Friday, live on Sky Sports, with a 12:30pm kick-off.

And Smith confirmed that he will be making changes to his side that fell to their fifth straight defeat at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The Black and Whites are just two wins from seven in 2023, and failed to pick up a victory in March.

Their last win came at Headingley Stadium in February, followed by defeats to Catalans, Salford, St Helens, Leigh and Warrington. 

Discussing potential replacements for Hoy ahead of the derby, Smith said: “It was too soon for Jamie to play reserves this week. It’ll either be him or Davy Litten.

“We’ll see where Jamie is at.

“We had a good win in reserve grade today and there’s a positive for us.

“There’s a few from that reserves team who will feature for us next week. There will be some changes for next week’s game.”
