Casualty Ward: Sam Tomkins returns to training & Coote boost

Sam Tomkins has returned to training with Catalans Dragons following a small fracture to the fibula.

The 33-year-old left the field with the injury during the club’s defeat to St Helens in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals earlier in April.

He has so far missed games against Toulouse, Salford, Hull and Castleford. Catalans host Warrington this Saturday live on Sky Sports.

Lachlan Coote boost

Hull KR could welcome back Lachlan Coote for their clash against Castleford on Sunday. The full-back missed their Challenge Cup defeat to Huddersfield on Saturday. He failed his head test during their clash with Leeds in Super League, but will have completed his 11-day concussion protocol for their upcoming clash.

Jonny Lomax update

St Helens head coach Kristian Woolf has confirmed Jonny Lomax has ruptured his bicep following their Challenge Cup defeat against Wigan.

Lomax picked up the injury during last week’s win over Salford at the Totally Wicked Stadium. Woolf confirmed after that match that he would be sent for a scan. He played the full 80 minutes against Wigan in the Challenge Cup semi-final on Saturday.

Woolf said in his post-match press conference: “He’s ruptured his bicep. So there is no more damage he can do there. The rest of his arm and shoulder are as strong as can be.

“It’s something he will have to deal with in different ways. But he’s going to be able to get through the season, no dramas.”

Leeds provide update including Zak Hardaker

In a full update on all their injured players, Leeds have confirmed that Zak Hardaker has been given the green light by the specialists to resume training.

The Rhinos say Hardaker ‘hopes to be available for selection in the near future’.

Leeds will be without winger Tom Briscoe for up to three months. He has had surgery on a high ankle sprain he suffered in their win over Toulouse in Round 10.

Full-back Jack Walker and centre Harry Newman will return to full team training in June. They are both dealing with lower limb injuries but the Rhinos say the pair are progressing well.

Liam Sutcliffe (knee), Alex Mellor (sternum), Corey Johnson (knee), Richie Myler (groin), David Fusitu’a (knee) and Tom Holroyd (ankle) have completed their rehabilitation periods.

Ryan Brierley eyeing up return

Salford full-back Ryan Brierley is eyeing up a return to the field this Sunday against Leeds. The 30-year-old suffered broken ribs during the club’s defeat to Wigan at the DW Stadium in April.
