Powell: It was a scratchy game

Castleford coach Daryl Powell says the Tigers were never quite convincing in their eight-point win over Huddersfield but most importantly they got the job done.

The Tigers prevailed 22-30 last night, after taking a 10-16 lead into half-time.

“I thought it was a bit of a scratchy game to be honest,” Powell said.

“I thought we were really good defensively to keep them out in the first half.

“But we were never quite convincing. The most important thing is that we got the two points.”

Huddersfield won the penalty count and forced five goal-line drop-outs, while Castleford forced none.

The Tigers went out to a 10-30 lead in the 63rd minute but two late tries by the Giants evened the scoreline up.

Powell knows his team will need to improve.

“I thought we had control of the game for the most part,” he said.

“We’ve got to clean kicks up a bit better than we do at the moment.

“We’ll draw a line under this game and move on.”
