Catalans Dragons have confirmed that stand-off Todd Carney has signed a new three-year contract at the club.

The improved deal should see him stay at the Perpignan club until the end of the 2018.

Dragons chairman Bernard Guasch is delighted that Carney wil be around for the long-term, allowing coach Laurent Frayssinous to put some successful fundamentals in place.

“Laurent Frayssinous wants to build the future of the club with and around Todd Carney,” said Guasch.

“After long discussions with Todd, we managed to find an agreement. He has had a tough season but he feels good here and wants to stay at the Catalans Dragons.

“The club and Todd have great common ambitions, he is a tremendous player who will help us to realise our goals and dreams and I’m really proud to keep him at the club.

“I am very happy for all the rugby league fans, for our supporters especially and our sponsors that Todd has chosen to stay in Perpignan.

“He showed that he is a quality rugby league player every time he was on the field and we are very pleased to announce the signing of this new contract.”

Frayssinous believes that Carney’s will to win will help to drive his team towards some tangible success in the coming seasons.

“I am delighted that Todd has made the choice to stay in Perpignan,” he said.

“He has been particularly frustrated with his season and is looking forward to starting 2016.

“He is hungry for victories and trophies and can help us to achieve our goals. We have seen what he was able to do on a field each time he played this season, and I hope for him and the club that he can remain injury free now.

“We can do great things with a such talented player in the team and his signing once again shows the club’s ambitions.”
