Widnes stand-off Kevin Brown has undergone surgery on an ankle injury suffered during pre-season training.

Brown, 28, joined the Vikings on a four-year deal from Huddersfield, and hasn’t played a game since turning out for the Giants against Warrington in July.

A club statement said: “Widnes Vikings can report that Kevin Brown has sustained an injury to his ankle, during pre-season training.

“As a result of this injury he has undergone a routine surgical repair.

“The club can confirm that this repair is not on the same ankle that has been operated on previously.

“It is anticipated that Kevin Brown will be available for the start of Super League 2013.”

Brown is Widnes’ only new face for next season so far – the club have made the loans of Wigan duo Stefan Marsh and Joe Mellor permanent, while former Bradford utility Phil Joseph and ex-Huddersfield forward Matt Sarsfield are on trial at the Stobart Stadium.
