Whitehaven hit by Joe injury blow

Whitehaven have been dealt a massive blow with the news that Leroy Joe has suffered a broken ankle.

Playmaker Joe, 35, went off during the 17-16 defeat at Keighley on Sunday and the club confirmed that x-rays showed he has suffered a break.

He will be sent to fracture clinic as soon as possible when more will be known about his recovery time.

A spokesman said: “It’s a blow for sure. Leroy is our most experienced player and a leader on the field. His presence will surely be missed.”

Joe, who was appointed captain for the 2009 season following the departure of Gary Broadbent, signed a new one-year deal at the start of the season and his versatility has proved invaluable to the club in recent years.
