Phelps set for Wigan debut

Cameron Phelps could be in line for his Wigan debut this weekend for Saturday night’s trip to Les Catalans.nnThe Australian centre, 23, signed at the JJB Stadium from Canterbury Bulldogs last month, and impressed in the reserve team’s 52-6 win at Huddersfield last week.nnCurrent centre Phil Bailey is still nursing a groin injury he picked up in last month’s Cup quarter-final defeat at Leeds, so Phelps looks likely to make his first-team debut in the south of France.nnSecond rower Gareth Hock is also a doubt for head coach Brian Noble, after picking up an ankle knock in training, so prop Andy Coley may have to switch to the second row against Mick Potters’ third-placed side.nnNoble has a number of key players missing through injury, one of which is captain Sean O’Loughlin. The loose forward is sidelined for at least another two months with a broken shoulder blade.nnHead coach Noble has recognised he could be left with a slightly weakened squad for the trip to the Stade Aime Giral, Perpignan.nn”We have question marks over both Gareth and Phil. Hock picked up a knock in training this week and Phil Bailey is struggling from the Leeds game. We can’t make decisions on those players until later this week,” he said.nn”It could go either way on both players, it’s 50/50. It’s fair to say neither have practised yet but we are hoping for better on Thursday. If both miss out it could leave us a bit skinny for back rowers,” he added.
