Workington sign Scholey

Workington Town have raided the amateur ranks, and signed prop forward Stevie Scholey from the Maryport club.

Scholey has been rewarded for the fine performances he turned in during Town’s preseason friendlies against Whitehaven and Wigan.

Although primarily a front rower, Scholey can also play in the back row if needed. He has played for BARLA Great Britain and for Cumbria in the county championship.

“We are delighted to have Stevie commit to the club,” said Workington Town vice chairman Mark Fryer.

“He initially came down to train and impressed enough to be giving a run out in our pre season games, and his performance in those games earned him a contract.

“He really took his chance with both hands. We now have another young, talented local player who will add further competition for places in an already strong forward pack.”
