Wigan half-back George Williams has signed a new four-year deal with the Warriors.

Williams, 19, joined the club’s Scholarship system four years ago and has made 10 consecutive appearances for the Warriors this season.

He said: “I am delighted to commit my future to Wigan. I thoroughly enjoy the environment here and intend to repay the coaches’ trust in me by working hard, continuing to improve and play my role in helping this team to achieve great things.

“It is a really exciting time for the Club; we have great facilities, great fans, a great coaching team and a great group of players who want to create a new period of success for this great club”

Williams made a try-scoring debut for Wigan in a Challenge Cup victory over Leigh last year.

Wigan head coach Shaun Wane said:  “I am really pleased that George has decided to sign a long term deal with his hometown club.

“He is a very talented young player who shows great desire to be the best. Make no mistake, we are the envy of many Super League clubs in getting George’s signature.

“He fits perfectly into the Wigan culture with his behaviour on and off the field and I look forward to sharing much success with George over the years to come”.

Kris Radlinski, the Rugby General Manager at Wigan added: “With some players you know within minutes of seeing them that they have the necessary qualities to succeed. George has maturity and game sense beyond his years.

“He is an important part of the Club’s future and we can now begin to recruit around George knowing that he will be with us for a long time”.
