Wildcats back Fox campaign

Wakefield are supporting the growing campaign for their former player and coach Neil Fox MBE to be considered for Freemanship of the City.

The Wildcats believe that very few people deserve to receive such recognition from the City fathers more than Neil Fox who, besides being a distinguished servant to the Wakefield Trinity club, has become one of the icons of the modern game of the professional Rugby League.

Neil played as a professional in four decades; represented his country with great distinction and achieved a world record of 6,220 points in a career, a feat which is likely to stand for many more years.

Throughout his remarkable playing career and during his time in business, Neil has conducted himself with great dignity and humility, a quality that has earned him great respect not only in Wakefield and District but also far beyond too.

Ted Richardson, the chairman of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, said: “During the last few weeks and months there has been a growing clamour for the City of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council to make Neil Fox a Freeman.

“We would hope the Council will take such suggestions very seriously and would be happy to throw our weight behind any proposal on Neil’s behalf.

“Besides being a great servant to this club and the sport of Rugby League, Neil has been a model citizen who has always represented the City of Wakefield with great distinction.”
