Wigan Warriors half-back Jake Shorrocks has joined Salford Red Devils on a one-month loan deal.

The 22-year-old made his first team debut in 2016 and went on to play 12 games that year.

He made just one appearance for the first team last season due to a serious knee injury. He has fully recovered and has impressed when playing for Wigan’s reserves this season.

Salford coach, Ian Watson, said: “Jake is a quality young British half who featured heavily in Wigan’s first team a couple of years ago until his cruciate ligament injury unfortunately cut it short.

“He is now looking to build his reputation back up following this injury spell and I’d like to thank Wigan Warriors and Shaun Wane for allowing us to bring Jake in for a loan spell.

“With us being short and needing some competition in the halves and spine of the team it gives us another option.

“While we can help Jake rebuild, he can help us on the field this month and hopefully we’ll see some of Jake’s qualities which have made him one of the hottest prospects in the game.”

Kris Radlinski, Warriors executive director, added: “We’re fit and healthy at the moment and that’s a good thing but unfortunately for Jake, that means he’s just not had a chance to play in the team this year.

“He’s a talented player and this is a fantastic opportunity for him to play more regularly in a good Salford team, we wish Jake and Salford well.”
