Wigan nicely poised to take top five spot, says Hardaker

Wigan full-back Zak Hardaker says they are in pole position to claim a play-off spot, ahead of their trip to Huddersfield on Friday night.

The Warriors have benefited from the closing up of the Super League table, lifting themselves up to seventh place, just two points below Castleford in fifth.

Their trip to the John Smith’s Stadium will be a pivotal moment in their season, giving them the opportunity to move up the table and put distance between themselves and the Giants, who are being dragged in to the relegation battle.

Hardaker told the club’s official website: “We know to climb the table we have to win games and we feel from the next three, as well as the previous two, we can put together a five-game winning streak, which will stand us in good stead and propel us into the top five.

“It’s achievable as we know we are facing teams in and around us. It’s vital that we continue this momentum going into the back end of the season.

“Hopefully, the rain starts to stop, and the sun starts to come out, which will benefit us in terms of our attacking style and how we want to play.”

Wigan have won their last two games, against Hull KR and Leeds, but lost their previous meeting with Huddersfield, going down 14-6 at the DW Stadium in round 5.

After Huddersfield, Wigan have home games with Salford and Hull KR before a trip to arch rivals and current leaders St Helens.
