Wigan boss Matt Peet believes he will be without star player Jai Field for their Good Friday derby clash with St Helens next week.

Field, 25, limped from the field against Leigh late in the second half.

He featured in the halves during the Super League clash at the Leigh Sports Village, and crossed twice in the 34-6 victory.

“He’s going to need a scan,” Peet said in his post-match press conference.

“I would anticipate he’ll be out for a few weeks. I’m guessing, but a hamstring injury, it isn’t a quick turnaround.

“We’ll be patient.”

Australian playmaker Cade Cust also missed the fixture with Leigh through a neck injury and is expected to be sidelined for an unconfirmed time.

His absence saw Bevan French named at full-back against Leigh, with Field moved into the halves alongside Harry Smith.

“We’ll probably look at rotating some of our existing squad,” Peet said looking ahead to next Friday’s clash.

“Ryan Hampshire is out, Cade Cust is out. We’ll look at rotation.

“We’ll look within the lads who have already played this season, especially with it being such an intense game.

I like to think in the last season and a bit we’ve been adaptable in rotation. I know it’s a strength of ours.”

Winger Liam Marshall was also ruled out of the clash ahead of the game through a minor injury.

The England international is expected to miss next Friday’s clash at the DW Stadium against St Helens, having started the season in good form with eight tries in six games.

“He should be back in the next few weeks,” Peet explained on Marshall.

“It was a bad stud on his foot which was too swollen to stitch.

“I think we’ll see him in the next few weeks.”
