Widnes v Barrow: Salford duo named in Raiders team

Salford Red Devils duo Josh Johnson and Jack Wells have both been named in Barrow’s 17 to face Widnes for Monday Night Rugby League.

The pair joined the club last week on loan for more game time.

Jarrod Sammut has been named in the halves alongside Jake Carter for Paul Crarey’s side. Former Wakefield hooker Josh Wood starts, with Nathan Mossop on the bench.

Winger Ryan Shaw needs three tries to reach 100 for his career and has been named.

Ryan Ince comes back in for Ollie Brookes after returning from a head knock for Widnes. Kenny Baker drops out from the 13 to serve his ban as Shane Grady comes in to start. Dec Gregory is set to make his club debut from the bench after recovering from injury.

Ince and team-mate Adam Lawton have both scored four tries so far in the 2022 competition, the second most in the Championship. Leigh’s Nene Macdonald leads the way with five.

Joe Edge has kicked 16 goals, the second most behind Craig Hall with 17. Barrow’s Shaw has kicked 11, and has 26-points so far in 2022, while Edge has 36.

Both sides remain undefeated so far in 2022, with Widnes winning four from four and Barrow winning their three games back in the Championship.

Widnes captain Jack Owens has confirmed that he could return to action for his side’s trip to York. Speaking to Ross Fiddes on Premier Sports, the full-back confirmed he is close to a return for the first time this season.
