Widnes triumph over Thunder 34-8

Widnes has defeated Newcastle by 26 points in a friendly match at Kingston Park.

It was a straight forward win for the Vikings who featured a side full of youngsters and academy players.

Widnes opened the scoring in the first minute, Ryan Ince getting the try.

Scrum-half Jordan Johnstone got the second four-pointer to give the visitors a 10-0 lead.

Tries to loose forward Brad Walker and hooker Jack Houghton put the Vikings in a commanding 22-0 position at half-time.

In the 46th minute stand-off Josh Lyons continued the scoring for Widnes with a try.

The Thunder finally got on the scoreboard when winger Ali Blair touched down.

But the Vikings responded quickly with Lyons getting his second after he got there first to his own kick to make the score 34-4.

Newcastle substitute Dan Parker got the final try of the match in front of 1,231 spectators.
