Widnes paid an emotional tribute to the late Kato Ottio ahead of their 62-0 friendly victory over Whitehaven on Friday night.

Chief executive James Rule, flanked by coach Denis Betts and co-captain Chris Houston, laid a Papua New Guinea flag and wreath on the pitch prior to kick-off before addressing the crowd at the Halton Stadium.

After the game, the club confirmed that fundraising for Ottio’s family had now hit the £14,000 mark, with more than £4,000 raised at the game itself.
