Adam Lawton has been granted a sabbatical from his Super League contract with Widnes Vikings.

The club have confirmed that they were approached by the player, who requested a period of leave from his current deal.

The player’s registration will be retained by the Vikings, should Lawton decide to return to Super League in the future.

Lawton intends to take an extended break in Australia.

“We obviously respect Adam’s request and want to provide him with the opportunity to move to Australia and away from the rigours of playing professional rugby league with Widnes Vikings,” said James Rule, Vikings CEO.

“We accepted Adam’s request but he will remain contracted with the club. Widnes Vikings will retain his registration.

“By retaining Adam’s registration and contract, the door remains open for Adam should he wish to return to Super League in the future.”
