White turns green

Melbourne enforcer Brett White has announced his decision to sign with Canberra from next season.

The 28-year-old New South Wales and Australia prop is the second high-profile casualty of Melbourne’s post salary breach player clearout, following Greg Inglis‘ departure to Brisbane.

But the former Cooma junior says he can’t wait to help the Raiders become a genuine force in the NRL.

“It’s the start of a new chapter,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to joining the Raiders. They’re a young group with plenty of upside and potential and I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting few years ahead.

“The competitiveness they showed on Monday night demonstrated that and it was certainly an attraction and a factor in my decision. Being closer to home was also a factor. I’m looking forward to putting something back into my local region.”

White said the decision to leave the Storm was a tough one, but said he’s looking forward to joining the Raiders for the next phase of his NRL career.

“Obviously Melbourne has been wonderful to me,” White said. “The people that are left at the club are the right people to take the Storm forward.

“It’s taken a while to come to a decision and it certainly wasn’t an easy one to make. But I felt this decision was the right thing for all parties.”
