Westwood faces ban for punch

Warrington second-row Ben Westwood could miss England‘s opening game of the World Cup against Australia for his punch on Blake Green in Saturday’s Grand Final.

Westwood, 32, has been charged with a Grade B punching offence by the RFL, following the incident in the second minute of the 30-16 defeat to Wigan.

He will appear before an RFL Disciplinary Tribunal on Tuesday via an internet link, having flown to South Africa for an England training camp today.

The suspension tariff for a Grade B charge is 1-2 matches. A one match ban would see the former Wakefield man sit out England‘s World Cup warm-up game against Italy at Salford on October 19.
