Watson: It’s been a tough day

Salford coach Ian Watson admitted his team failed to build on the early lead they established against Warrington in what was a difficult day for his club.

Salford are set for the Middle 8s once again after losing their appeal against the six-point deduction.

The Red Devils did take a 4-0 lead at the Halliwell Jones Stadium before being swept aside suffering a comprehensive 40-14 defeat away to the Wolves.

“They came out fighting, the boys have been doing that all season,” Watson told Sky Sports.

“It’s just a tough day for us but we will bounce back, we have got a good group.

“First half we were in there, we started really well and then towards the end of the first half we fell away a little bit.

“We come out in the second half and we didn’t get a try but like I said the boys are a good group and they will learn from that, it’s just been a tough day for us.”

Watson also spoke of what his players need to do ahead of the Qualifiers.

“It is all about getting that bit of continuity that we had earlier in the season and get us playing well and going in with some confidence.

“We will regroup and we will talk about that tomorrow.”
