Warriors battle growing injury list

Wigan boss Shaun Wane faces a big selection headache when Salford visit the DW stadium on Friday.

Sean O’Loughlin will definitely miss the game as he’ll be playing for England against Samoa, while Ben Flower is also out after rupturing an Achilles tendon in the 54-4 defeat at Castleford last Saturday.

The Warriors lost Anthony Gelling and George Williams during the same game, joining Thomas Leuluai, Tony Clubb Oliver Gildart, Sam Tomkins, John Bateman, Dom Manfredi and Jake Shorrocks on the injured list.

Michael McIlorum, who has only just returned from injury, will not play against Salford after receiving a one-match ban.

“I think we’ve got 14 senior players down – we’ve no halves, no back-up half and we’ve four people being scanned as we speak, so I’ll know more about them this afternoon and that will dictate what team I play on Friday.

“It’s going to be a very young team and the players are going to have to play well.

“We’re all very positive at this club – we’ll be absolutely hell bent on getting an unbelievable win on Friday. I’m genuinely excited.”
