Wigan coach Shaun Wane is set to hand debuts to two academy products when he takes his Warriors side to Widnes on Friday.

Wane could be without up to nine first team players for the trip to Widnes and will name youngsters Lewis Tierney and Ryan Hampshire in his 19-man squad.

Sam Tomkins, Matty Smith, Sean O’Loughlin, Blake Green, Mike Mcllorum, Liam Farrell, Pat Richards and Ben Flower are all unlikely to feature for Wigan at the weekend.

Wane said: “We have alot of injuries this week, players with injuries from the Leeds game, then Wakefield, a quick turnaround and we are carrying quite a few injuries and knocks.

“Lewis is an out-and-out full-back, very busy, very strong, he runs the ball well and he’s a Wigan kid so I expect him to be looking forward to it.

“When I asked him if he was ready, the look in his eye told me he is.

“Ryan is a halfback who is very talented, a good, smart kid and it’ll be good to see how he goes.”
