Wane: Our mistakes hurt us

Wigan coach Shaun Wane says his team’s defensive errors proved costly against Widnes on Thursday night.

Wigan suffered their first loss of 2016 at the hands of the Vikings.

“They were were good Widnes,” Wane told Sky.

“They stayed with us for a long time. I knew eight points start wasnt going to be enough because when you’re playing against the best team in the comp at the moment you can’t make poor defensive errors, which is what we did.

“It cost us in the end. It’s hard to take. We’ve had a good record here for a long time and we gave it up tonight.”

Wane paid credit to the performance of the Vikings.

“I thought we defended well for large parts of the game,” he said.

“But they’re good a team Widnes, credit to Denis. They were the better team for the 80 minutes tonight. We have to take it on the chin, dust ourselves down and get ready for St Helens on Friday.”
