Wane extends Wigan stay

Wigan head coach Shaun Wane will be staying at the club for next season.

Owner and Chairman Ian Lenagan has confirmed that the Warriors have agreed an option in his contract for 2014.

The news is a timely boost as Wane and his side prepare for Saturday’s Tetley’s Challenge Cup Final at Wembley against Hull FC.

Lenagan said:

“We are all delighted that Shaun will be with us again next season. Shaun has done everything we have asked of him, and as far as we are concerned, it would have been silly not to take up the option.

“We can all see the input he’s made on the team and the way the players have responded to having Shaun as the head coach.”

Wane was appointed to the position in October 2011, and in his first year in charge Wigan were crowned League Leaders’ Shield winners.

This season the Warriors are currently third in the Super League table, and they will be looking to win the Challenge Cup for the second time in three years when faced with the Airlie Birds on Saturday.
