Wakefield need to wake up – Finn

Matthew Crosby

Veteran half-back Liam Finn says Wakefield need to rediscover their form quickly if they are going to continue pushing for a play-off spot this season, starting at home to Leeds Rhinos on Thursday (Match Betting – Wakefield 11/4, Draw 25/1, Leeds 2/7)

Trinity finished the regular season fifth in the table, having won 13 out of their 23 matches, but have started the Super 8’s off in dismal fashion, losing 36-6 at rivals Huddersfield Giants.

Having slipped to sixth, Chris Chester’s men are in danger of falling away from the top-four, although they are only a single point behind the Saints in fourth.

Wakefield, who are 10/1 to finish in a play-off place, welcome second-place Leeds to the Beaumont Legal Stadium on Thursday in what is a crucial game for the hosts.

Finn, who has scored three tries and slotted over 75 goals this season, has now sent a rallying call to his team-mates ahead of the clash against Brian McDermott’s men.

“We’ve played poorly in both and we need to fix it up,” he said. “Everyone goes through a period where they don’t play well, but we had a chance to get in the top-four on both occasions so it has been like a double-whammy for us.

“We need to dig ourselves out of this so all our hard work this season is not undone.”

The Rhinos, who beat Wigan Warriors 32-16 last time out, are priced at 10/11 to reach the Grand Final at Old Trafford this season whilst Wakefield, who have never played in the season-ending spectacle, are a 33/1 shot.
