Wakefield Wildcats have confirmed that legendary loose forward Derek ‘Rocky’ Turner has passed away.

He joined the club in 1959, and many fans trace the beginning of Trinity’s successful 1960s spell to the signing of the Ossett-born player.

Turner was the first captain to skipper a side at three successive Wembley Challenge Cup finals in 1961, 1962 and 1963.

He won 24 caps for Great Britain, and, in addition to a fine collection of domestic honours, was part of the World Cup winning side of 1960.
