Wakefield flyer joins Oldham on loan

Oldham have signed winger Lee Kershaw on a season-long loan from Wakefield.

The 19-year-old spent time on loan at the Roughyeds last season, scoring 11 tries in 20 games for the club.

Kershaw is already a fan favourite at the Vestacare Stadium and will play the full season in League 1 next year, but Wakefield have an option to recall him.

On returning to Oldham, Kershaw said: “I’m a much better player now than when I arrived at Oldham, especially in defence.

“If I ever do anything wrong, the other lads rally around and are always very supportive.

“Some teams were tougher opponents than others, but there are a lot of good players in League 1 and overall, the standard is a lot better than what I was used to in the Under-19s [at Wakefield].

“The target next season, as always, will be promotion. We don’t want to hang around too long in this division. We deserve to be up there.”

Oldham coach Scott Naylor added: “It’s incredible to think he’s still only 19.

“Hopefully he will be with us for the full season but if he were to be recalled to get a bit of gametime in Super League then he would go with our blessing and our best wishes.

“I can only see him getting better and eventually going a long way in the game.”
