Vincent Rennie signs for Newcastle Thunder

Newcastle Thunder have agreed to sign Cook Islander Vincent Rennie in time for the 2016 season.

The front rower has joined from the Canterbury Bulldogs and has only featured in the NSW Cup with the likes of James Graham and Aiden Tolman keeping Rennie out of the first team picture.

Thunder head coach Mick Mantelli has welcome the signed of the forward and believes he has a lot to offer the club next season.

“I’ve coached against Vincent over the last few years and he comes with a lot of good references,” Mantelli told the club’s official website.

“He was behind a fantastic front row at Bulldogs and felt he needed a new challenge to progress and we were able to offer him that opportunity. From being part of the Bulldogs’ system for the last few years, he has all the little one percent things and I am looking forward to coaching him at Thunder.”

Rennie himself has already expressed his excitement for the season ahead, and said the opportunity to taste life in England was too good to turn down.

“Aaron and I played a test against Tonga for a World Cup qualifier and Mick gave us a call about a week after asking if we would be interested in coming to Newcastle,” he said.

I discussed it with my family as we had a new boy not too long ago and they said to go and take a one time opportunity. It will be good to experience life in England, the footie over here and I am really excited for the season ahead.”
